Wanted: More Truth in Advertising

After watching a number of the late night commercials that were on the comedy channels, I decided that if I wanted to get hair loss surgery, I would take a before and after hair transplant photo in order to share my honest results with other people.

After getting the surgery completed, however, I decided a hair transplant photo was out. Why? Because the top of my head after the surgery looked absolutely disgusting. My scalp was red, cruddy, and some of the hairs that had been placed into my head started to quickly fall out. Had I taken a hair transplant photo directly after the picture was taken, rest assured it would not be as beautiful as the ones that you see on the commercials.

And that makes some sense. To be fair to the companies that are trying to sell their surgery, showing a single true hair transplant photo is probably enough to turn people off from the entire procedure. However, I would like to see a hair transplant photo that said, somewhere, even in the fine print, that the photos they take (if they are real) are photos of what one's hair looks like after several months. Not right away. See, I had places to go and things to do in public. I had to buy fake hair to go to those things, because my hair was so awful looking that there was simply no way that I could let others see me as I really looked.

And that's not really fair to those that need the surgery - especially those that are getting it for a reason. Could you imagine if you were suffering from extreme hair loss, about to get married, and you thought that getting a surgery would be a good idea only to find out that all of your wedding photos are going to end up as bad hair transplant photos? That seems unfair in my book.
